Fight
The impulsiveness of sin. The regret of sin. The weakness to fight sin. These are not just your daily battles, there are everyone’s daily battles as well. As long as you are clothed in flesh, you will still be tempted by the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. But there are important question to ask yourself. When will your love for God become so much more than your love for sin? Do you love God more than you love sin? Are you created for sin or is sin created for you? At what point will you say enough is enough? At what point will you say, never again? Whatever you do, don’t stop fighting. Don’t stop yearning for the holy life. Don’t throw in the towel and lay down defeated by sin. Fight on. Everyday you wake up, is a new day to wrought righteousness. You can do it.
Cut
There are things much more interesting than the besetting sin, for example, your life work. Lay sin aside. Cut. The covenant God had with Abraham was about circumcision which of course meant cutting. Something has to be cut, to show you have taken sides with Jesus Christ. Cutting is painful but it is necessary to live the God-life. It may be cutting your closet friend who leads you down the path of destruction time and time again. It could mean cutting ties with your computer at home. If your hands causes you to sin, scripture says, cut. If it’s your leg, cut. It’s better to enter heaven cut, than not to enter heaven at all. Fight and Cut.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. – Psalm 119:11
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? – Job 31:1
