For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. – Mark 10:45

One of the things that I learned in my undergraduate season is that Education is for Service. Heck, my Alma matter’s slogan is “Education for Service”. As undergrads, we had to do service projects as a requirement and one such project I undertook, stands out to me. I, along with a team traveled to Alabama to help folks build houses and generally help out wherever help was needed. I met some of the “realest” (if there is a word like that) people there. Sure they were in need but they taught me much more than all the knowledge I acquired during my time in University. I learned wisdom and empathy from those folks.

Your education is not just to enrich yourself, it is not just that you take care of your family’s needs alone but that you reach our to others less fortunate. For in so doing, you find the most joy. Strive to become, that you may serve. Education is not just a degree from an institution of higher learning. An education, to me, is know how. Are you a video director, a handy man, a mechanic, a school teacher, a rocket scientist, whatever, you are educated because you possess know how. Use this know how to be of service to the living for scripture reminds us:

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13
