I like this saying: He who has had an experience with God is never at the mercy of someone with an argument. Oh, you know what you know. You know what you’ve experienced. You remember when God came through for you when no one else was there – no one else, I say. You remember the times He brought you through the darkest nights. When there was no food and you wondered how you would pay fees the next day. Somehow He came through.
It’s the reverse experience of an innocent man thrown into the backseat of a police car. You know what you experienced, you know how you were roughened – the racist words that were spoken to you, even. And when the judge says you have no evidence, when people say there was no recording, no proof – that does not change what you experienced in the back seat of that police car. You know how it was when the enemy tried to sink you completely, but by the grace of God – you emerged stronger – you know what you’ve experienced.
It’s the woman by the well speaking about Jesus. Oh, the academicians can argue how Jesus is not the son of God, but that woman knew what she experienced. This experience helps you get through obstacles. You know you’ve seen worse, and so you can get through this trial. When others give up and explain academically, why it won’t work, why they should move. You stay steadfast, thriving, improving all the time, plundering hell for heaven, even in the midst of challenges. Why? Because you know what you experienced, when you came into the presence of God. Shalom.
