I n my younger days, I once thought of quitting a job on the spot after a disagreement with my supervisor. As I moved to implement this move, an inner voice persuaded me to call and ask a lady much older and wiser than myself. I rebelled because I thought there was a chance she would oppose the move. My pride reminded me that I call the shots for my life. Wasn’t I the captain of my ship and master of my soul? Thankfully reason prevailed and I called.

She warned me not to quit at the moment because of my current feeling. She reminded me of my responsibilities, advising to quit ONLY when I had secured new income. This advice may apply to you as well. I seethed at the fact that I was not able to revenge, but swallowed my pride and went back to the mundane. Thank God she didn’t try to assuage my feelings. She was right. Her wisdom saved me from future grief.

The way to be wise, is to ask for wisdom. It’s that simple. Ask for Wisdom through reading the autobiography of God’s generals in the Bible. You know, Abraham, David, Isaiah and so on. How do you think King Solomon became the wisest man ever? He did so by asking for wisdom. For requesting wisdom, he got riches and honor to come along. Buy one, get two free?

Wisdom is the principal thing. Wisdom is the embodiment of judgement, foresight and knowledge all in one package. Wisdom is the application of knowledge. Wisdom is knowing what to do, when to do it, and where to do it. In life you will need to make wise decisions to move forward. One bad decision can set you back years. Be humble enough to seek counsel of someone wiser. And whom wiser than God? Pray to God for wisdom, He won’t deny you this.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. – James 1:5
