I have been in Colombia over the last few days. Well, not physically speaking, but in books. I’ve been studying its history, it’s beautiful cities and the resilience of its people. One of the dark chapters the Colombian people overcame was that of Pablo Escobar. What stood out to me like a sore thumb, was Pablo’s mom, Hemilda Gaviria. She kept boosting his confidence and telling him that he was the most powerful man in Colombia, He was the next president. He was great. Pablo believed this and lived like it. This reminds me of Alexander the great, whose mother told him he was a god. Alexander believed this and almost conquered the known world.

No Kings Without Mothers

As I read through the Bible, I am amazed at how the old testament always mentions prominently, the mother of King’s, particularly in Chronicles. Solomon’s mom Bathsheba had to remind King David that he promised her son would be the next King. Neurosurgeon, Ben Carson, mentioned he is successful because of the words his mother said to him: “Ben, you can do everything those rich people do, except that you can do it better”. Mary expressed confidence in her young son Jesus saying : “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it”. That birthed the first miracle Jesus did. I could go on and on but you get the point. You see the power of a mother words over her child.

Draw Confidence From Your Mother’s Words

Not all mother’s encourage, in fact some mothers speak hurtful words to their children. Some people did not grow up with a mother at all. But if you are a mother, or you know one, adjure to speak words of confidence to daughters and sons, biological or not. If your own mom never spoke confidence into your life, seek someone else, perhaps from the Church, as your Spiritual mom. Take a moment to remember those words of confidence spoken over your life by your mom, and act just like it today. You are a conqueror, with the Lord by your side, there is nothing you can’t do.

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it – John 2:5
