How could John Sullivan realize that his prejudice towards me would propel me forward? Could he have foreseen that the man whom he unfairly gave my soccer scholarship to, would one day load my luggage into my car as I prepared to leave a luxury hotel with my family. How could he have predicted that though his decision caused me to temporarily drop out of school, that I would achieve an advanced degree 5 years before his posse would? I twice remember, the bitter sting of prejudice piercing me, yet in hindsight, those instances forced me to grow, to become the man God called me to be. I was propelled by prejudice.
Maturity Through Prejudice
In a previous article, stand, we saw that David’s “crime” was that he brought salvation to Israel. Something the incumbent King Saul, could not do. Dig deeper and you will find an entrenched prejudice that Saul had against David. Saul, a Benjamite, was hoping to pass on his throne to another Benjamite. To his son, Jonathan. David was of the tribe of Judah. You can call it tribalism or nepotism, but this also was a clear case of prejudice. In hindsight, David can attribute his maturity into a leader, his propulsion into Kingship, to the prejudice he had experienced.
May You Be Propelled
Prejudice made my Dad leave his previous company, to start his own very successful firm, which in turn eclipsed the former company. His boss wanted to pass on the leadership of the company to a newly hired lady because they were from the same tribe. Conveniently forgetting that dad had labored 15 years for him, and trained the lady he eventually handed leadership to. Could it be that the prejudice you have faced, is the very catapult that God is using to propel you to to your destiny? Stand and ask, “What is God doing now? See the bigger picture. This too shall pass. Your best days are ahead. I pray that the prejudice you faced in 2017 propels you into your bright 2018 destiny. Happy New Year.
