The grasshopper is a small insect, not known to jump or move long distances at a time. However the grasshopper is “On top of its game” when it comes to transporting itself from one place to another, irrespective of its limitation of not being able to jump far. This is because the grasshopper is a glider. The grasshopper listens for the wind, discerns its direction, leaps into the wind, and glides easily across long distances.

The Grasshopper

Flying is the closest thing to gliding in that it is also a fast method of transportation. However flying requires a lot of effort on the part of the flyer, (ask the pigeon who has to rigorously flap its wings, or the airplane engineer who has to fuel the jet engine). Gliding on the other hand requires little effort on the part of the glider (the Eagle can testify).

You can achieve much more by working with God, rather than working on your own, or worse still, working against Him. Rather than struggle on your own, Leap into the wind of God’s will today, hold steady and glide. Hoist your sail of faith and ride the wind of His spirit across great distances. It is so much easier. It is so much faster. It is so much better.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light – Matthew 11:30
