God's Call

Dhere is the story of an Eagle that laid her eggs and went out in search of food. Upon her return, she found out that one of her eggs had gone missing. The egg was stolen by a farmer and stored with Chicken eggs. The Chicken eggs and the Eagle egg hatched at about the same time. As the little eaglet grew, it realized it was different from the other chicks. It didn’t have the zeal to play the kind of games they played, it didn’t like their food. The chicks in return, ridiculed the eaglet, that it looked ugly and that it acted weird.

One day, the mother Eagle spotted the eaglet while on a routine search flight and screeched. The screech echoed through the bowels of the young eaglet and it responded by looking up to the sky. The Mother Eagle encouraged the eaglet to flap it’s wings implying that it was a bird built for the skies and not for hanging out on the ground with chickens. The eaglet tried to flap and after much struggle, was able to get to a modest height. The Eagle then swooped low and whisked the Eaglet to the skies – into the Azure.

This story illustrates how many who were born for the skies, end of staying on the ground with chickens. These are people born to be sons and daughters of God but find themselves hanging out in and with sin. But when that screech, that call, God’s call, through His word, hits the Eaglet in them, they respond – leaving behind a life of sin. And reaching out to the sky of righteousness -where they belong. As it is written:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me – John 10:27

…that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. – John 6:39

I know this to be true because this is how I became a Christian. Even though I had always gone to church, Christianity became real to me when I came in contact with someone who exemplified it for me. I remember looking at him and saying: “This is who I should be; I’ve been living a lie, this right here, is who I am”. At that point I no longer had a hold on Christianity, it had a hold on me. And so if you know someone whom you’ve always prayed for, but it seems the more you pray the worse they get. Don’t give up hope. Be faithful in prayer and in the word. When God’s call strikes the seed in them, they will come running home for they were Eagles to begin with. And like the Eagle, God is always on the look out for his lost children. God’s call cannot be resisted.
