Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? – Jeremiah 8:22

In recent times, we’ve focused on the principle of Jesus. How to live the right life, how to succeed – that kind of stuff. Over the next season, we will post more on the person of Jesus Christ. These would be hard writings and they may hurt a bit, but you can handle it – like medicine, it saves.

In second Kings Chapter one, we are presented with a story of how King Ahaziah fell down from a height and became sick. Ahaziah then sent messengers to inquire of Baalzebub in Ekron, if he would be healed. As the messengers went on their way, they were accosted by Prophet Elijah, the Tishbite. Elijah delivered a message from God asking why they were going to Ekron to inquire of Baalzebub. Was it because there was no God in Israel?
That’s the same question that is posed to us today: why do we go on smoking, getting drunk, indulging in immoral pleasures, you name it. Is it because there is no pleasure in Jesus Christ? Why do we take vengeance so rapidly into our own hands? Is it because He is asleep who said:
  …Vengeance is mine”, I will repay – Romans 12:19
See, we were created to thirst after God. When we reject God, we tend to try and satisfy that thirst with alcohol, wild parties, love of money, pride, lust and so on. But these things do not satisfy. Only God satisfies. Yes, there is joy unspeakable in Christ:
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable. – 1 Peter 1:8
Yes, there is peace that passeth all human understanding in Christ.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Phillippians 4:7
Yes, There is love against such there is no law – in Christ.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. – Galatians 5:22

It’s time we start drinking freely of that river flowing from the throne of God. It’s about time we plunge into that fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins. Where sinners plunge and lose all their guilty stains. Yes, there is Fun and pleasure in our Savior Jesus Christ. Yes, there is a balm in Gilead.

I once slept in the parking lot of wal-Mart for days, when I disregarded the Balm in Gilead.
