Luc, a believer in Haiti, and I had to figure out ourselves quickly. The bus company we wanted to use from Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (DR) just confirmed they were full, there was no more space for us. Worse still, I didn’t have cash with me, at the time, to pay the fare. And my credit cards were not authorized to work in Haiti. I had nothing on me but a quiet faith that God sent me to the DR, and so, He would open that door for His name. This quiet faith has distinguished me thus far in my life. Owing to my long and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, I’ve watched Him come through on so many occasions, I knew this one could not be an exception. I was certain He would show up, and He miraculously did. So, how did Luc and I get from Haiti to the DR without enough money? Well, we hailed a motorcycle to another bus station and boarded bus with the help of people I had never met, and didn’t ask, who pitched in their money to get us to the Christian meeting in the DR.

Abraham’s Quiet Faith
Abraham had this quiet faith we speak of as he explained to his son Isaac that the Lord would provide for Himself, not for us, but Himself, a lamb. God will do it for His sake. Here Abraham was, ready to sacrifice his only son in obedience to the Lord’s commandment.  i imagine he recalled how God provided a son for him in his old age when everyone said it was impossible. Abraham also recalled how the Lord called him from his father’s house and established him in a new country. He had seen the Lord show up time and time again. He had seen enough to develop a quiet faith that this time wouldn’t be any different. God did provide that lamb, just in the nick of time.

Jesus Christ Has a Stake in You

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him. How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er. Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus! Oh for grace to trust Him more.

Meditate on the lyrics above (one of my favorites) a bit, and consider all the times the Lord has come through for you. Remember when you wanted a spouse or wanted to pass an important exam; when you prayed for a sick child; when you asked for a job, or a visa to travel; when you wanted your detractors silenced…. He has come through for you in the past, all so you can develop this quiet faith. An everlasting confidence that when the stakes are high—or low, He will come through for you. He has to, for the sake of His name.

And Abraham said, My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering: – Genesis 22:8
