Abraham’s Quiet Faith
Abraham had this quiet faith we speak of as he explained to his son Isaac that the Lord would provide for Himself, not for us, but Himself, a lamb. God will do it for His sake. Here Abraham was, ready to sacrifice his only son in obedience to the Lord’s commandment. i imagine he recalled how God provided a son for him in his old age when everyone said it was impossible. Abraham also recalled how the Lord called him from his father’s house and established him in a new country. He had seen the Lord show up time and time again. He had seen enough to develop a quiet faith that this time wouldn’t be any different. God did provide that lamb, just in the nick of time.
Jesus Christ Has a Stake in You
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him. How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er. Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus! Oh for grace to trust Him more.
Meditate on the lyrics above (one of my favorites) a bit, and consider all the times the Lord has come through for you. Remember when you wanted a spouse or wanted to pass an important exam; when you prayed for a sick child; when you asked for a job, or a visa to travel; when you wanted your detractors silenced…. He has come through for you in the past, all so you can develop this quiet faith. An everlasting confidence that when the stakes are high—or low, He will come through for you. He has to, for the sake of His name.
And Abraham said, My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering: – Genesis 22:8
