I did a six month internship at the Nigerian Ports Authority back in the year 2000. During this time, I noticed that sex and occultism were needed to gain promotion. The general thinking was that you must either belong to a secret society or be prepared to sleep with a godfather in order to climb up the civil service ladder of success. Many did this and it led me to conclude that we live in a disillusioned world of happiness, all thanks to our lucrative life styles and abundant showers of material wealth. ‘’Nothing can go wrong’’ we say to ourselves. Just like fools, we say in our hearts that there is no GOD. “Make merry because tomorrow may never come. After all, there is no such thing as the after life?’

A Blind World

As Christians, we sometimes find ourselves sitting on the hot seat of sin simply because we want to live above our means. We envy the dubious life styles of the so-called societal top guns. The huge blanket of sin that has enveloped the whole atmosphere of the earth suggests that we now live in a blind world. Our eyes refuse to see the red veil of abomination pasted on the garment of the clouds. We seem to have accepted to be in the devil’s lineage. When we see evil, our hands clap in admiration and our hearts become enthusiastic. The guts to challenge the wrongs of the society has become extinct inside our dead consciences. Evil is now beheld as beautiful; righteousness is now a deadly offense. Our thoughts are now like a dirty apron hanging on our mortal chests.

And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous. – Exodus 23:8

Righteousness, on the other hand, is so easy to buy. It only takes the strong affirmation of Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal savior plus genuine repentance to buy it. Righteousness is the cheapest commodity and yet the dearest commodity in this blind world.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. – Proverbs 14:34

We ought to be as vigorous as fire in our dissemination of the gospel. It is our divine mandate to feed this blind world with the light of GOD’S salvation. Matthew 5:14 clearly explains that Christians are the light of the world. It will take the combined efforts of all Christians to light up this dark world. The precious blood of Jesus Christ is the only elixir which can cure the land.
